On nearly every social media site and app we have the option to block people but do you use it very often?

The reason I've taught about this is cause there are a good few on here that everytime I see them post I just think them again ffs.

I'm sure plenty think the same about me at times sure!

Would it not only block private messages ? I reckon you'd still see posts

I've blocked a number of phone numbers. Especially Vodafone and global windows

Yes, if they don't take the hint the first time.

I done it on a parenting site and it only blocked messages not posts. I cam see the appeal of blocking someone completely !

Only when needed :p Tbh I don't think I've seen any of your posts that I thought that of tbh.

It's peculiar but imo the ones who should avail of this - ie the ones who like to get in your face for whatever reason - never bother - they just make sure to have a go, even where they haven't bothered to contribute to a discussion or whether they're playing the ball or not.

Yes, the dangerous ones on every platform. Have done the same people for years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,173 ✭✭✭✭How Soon Is Now

There's one or two websites I'm on that I've had to block more then hundred people on because place is unbearable otherwise! I know if I see them post I'll say something and that be that all hell break loose ha.

On here I've just never bothered yet!

If you block someone here you don't see their posts.
You can see if someone quotes them though.

    Nah, smacks of effort.

Yeah, on Twitter anyway. There's nothing that says fuck you after you respond to someone and you block them immediately without giving them a chance to respond. I know it must drive people insane, specifically so the argumentative types.

I also block some of the most deplorable SJW's who turn everything into a feminist or trans issue, if they get a lot of retweets. Block a lot of the far right too.

The more you ignore me the closer I get.

    Sorry, I couldn't resist....I'll get me coat.

I has an extensive block list on facebook. Fierce handy for silencing idiots.

No, I've no one blocked. I'm rarely on any social media bar a quick look at LinkedIn every few days, so just boards really. There are a few posters here I generally skip over but I wouldn't be bothered blocking them

Only when people are being abusive. I blocked a lot of people in the run up to the referendum last year. I'm fine with people not agreeing with me and who are willing to engage in a respectful manner but I'm not going to engage with idiots.

I've been on a blocking spree for the past 10 hours. Everytime someone new posts I block them. I've gone through every forum one by one to block everyone who has posted in the past, I still have about 50 forums to block. I don't care about anyone else's views, mine are the most important. Once I get through the rest of the forums I will just have to block new posters as they arrive but apart from that, I will be the only poster on every thread.

No I don't. I like people who have upset me to see me doing well for myself. If I blocked them, they wouldn't see that :)

Even if someone is annoying me, I would rather see what they post. Not sure why..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,275 ✭✭✭Your Face

For myself, I don't like the idea of blocking someone on boards.ie

Ive only blocked 2 people on FB.
Ive unfollowed a lot more though.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,482 ✭✭✭Gimme A Pound

For the first time ever, I blocked a few people recently (insanely misogynistic, and then the other end of the spectrum - unable to contain their rage if you didn't toe the far left identity politics line) as the bile they posted just irked me, but then unblocked them as it affects the flow of a thread.

Blocked stalker ex on FB and Instagram. He hacked my accounts (guessed my passwords), changed my usernames to his name and once I eventually regained control of my accounts, I blocked him. Crazy mofo.

You shut your mouth. How can you say I go about things the wrong way?

I have three people blocked on boards.ie. I didn’t always disagree with them, I just found them annoying. If I blocked people that I disagreed with, the ignore list would be much longer.

And putting those few on block means I read threads more thoroughly now and am exposed to plenty of opinions I don’t agree with. So putting those few people on block has opened up my boards.ie world rather than making it smaller.

Yep, a few stalkers on FB messenger, a queen with a very nasty abusive attitude and a catfish who asked for my email address (major red flag) also on FB.

I've blocked people online, yes. They have to do more than post something I don't like though. I blocked someone here years ago because he kept leaving moronic comments on my profile about something that had happened months beforehand. I didn't give a shit about the comments but I was sick of getting email notifications about them. As far as I recall it didn't stop him leaving comments on my profile, it just meant I couldn't see his posts so that was a waste of time. I think I may have blocked one other person here once but I can't remember why.
