Breakfast Surprise!

Breakfast is usually a very light meal for me, normally consisting of coffee and toast or a piece of fruit. Anyway, this morning I had an apple, chose a large juicy red one and chomped away on it while catching up on some reading.

About mid way through I noticed an odd taste and took a look at the remaining piece of the apple. There were little green flecks dotted on the white flesh of the fruit. Never seen anything like it before.

It's odd the way a taste can evoke memories of smells and images of places we once visited. This taste reminded me of a very old library in a big old house I was once in, an image of the place even flashed in my mind while I was chewing, I could sense a mixture of old books, furniture polish, uncirculated air and it was gone again in a flash.

So, any ideas as to what it was? pieces of crack? the larvae of the green monster? are they coming for me now? do I have too much time on my hands?

As soon as I read the title, the song "crying game" came into my mind for some unknown reason.

With those memories and tastes, I'd get myself some penicillin and flat 7-UP post haste.

Coffee with breakfast is always a gamble if you're in a hurry. I need a good 15 minutes after my first coffee where I'll have access to a toilet in case Vesuvius erupts.

That was definitely mold. It tastes musty, like old books smell.

Yeah, probably mould as said. Took no chances this morning, chopped it up with some other fruit, nothing shown in that one.

The green was vibrant and I've only seen the darker greens of mould in blue cheeses, never in fruit before. Oh well, you live and learn (hopefully)
