Alexa speakers problem

I have an Amazon echo plus in the sitting room and an echo dot in the bedroom. I just got smart plugs for the lamps in both rooms. Now I have them set as lights in the Alexa app and can ask her to "turn on the lights" etc.
If I am in the bedroom and say "Alexa turn on/off the lights" she replies ok and it works perfectly. But in the sitting room if I do the same she says she cannot find a device named lights.
I know she is connected to the smart plugs in the sitting room as I can switch them on and off in the app and I can even say in the bedroom "Alexa turn on the sitting room lights" and it works fine.
It's just the echo plus speaker that's having problems with it. Anyone encounter this ?

Try setting up a 'room' for the sitting room and then add the echo plus to that group...…?

The echo plus does have a built in hub so maybe its not seeing any devices paired to it directly. I haven't noticed the issue as I would usually say the name of the room.
