Moving a gas meter

    Hi folks

    Our gas meter is located to the back of the garage (1950s semi-d with front side garage). We are looking to extend into the back of the garage from the adjoining room for a small utility. The gas meter is in this space. I have a few questions;

    - Are you obliged to move it rather than box it out in a Utility Room (it would still be accessible);
    - What are the approx costs to move it a few meters towards the front of the garage?
    - What are the approx costs to move it externally?

    Thanks

    We were quoted 2 grand to move it from the front of the house to the side, would have been 15 meters. So left it and just moved the boiler location

    You may find it's a simple job, if the gas pipe enters the garage to the front, and the meter could be loaded there, this would not require moving gas mains etc, once the meter is to the front (outside) of the property the rest would be up to your RGI plumber to repipe from the new location to the existing carcass pipework.

    Give GNI a shout, and they will price for you.
