    HI,
An EU person who works in Ireland is not obliged to get an Irish bank account, are they?
Their wages can be paid without problem into whatever foreign bank account they want that has an IBAN, and it doesn't cost the employer any more than to a local bank?
Considering the wait and hoops they have to go to just to open an account so that they can get their wages lodged.....
Although they might have higher transaction charges, but that's their choice.

    Thanks

Using N26 and they'd have less transaction charges than most Irish banks. Some employers will pay into it no problem. Some won't. But yes, using the IBAN, there won't be any extra charges for the employer.

Some organisations have issues (due to outdated or badly implement software) with non-irish bank accounts.

"Opening a Irish current account is fairly simple to be fair. "

Not so, as banks still demand proof of address from a utility company.

New residents often do not have this.
N26 on the other hand simply demand identity, passport etc.

It's an old autocratic idiotic requirement from a different age.

IPBS are the quickest at giving accounts, they will take a letter from the employer.
AIB and BOI can have the person waiting for a fortnight for just an appointment, despite knowing they have no utility bills.
Frequently the only proof of address available to the incomer is the letter that grants the PPS number, and depending on the time of the year it could be 2-3 weeks to get one. So it could be 4-5 weeks before the poor individual has an account.
It annoys me, this bureaucracy, because they are looking for a place to get their wages lodged, they are hardly looking to rob the bloody bank.
So the way to go is a any account that has an IBAN, and that is what I will tell anyone who asks.
    Thanks everyone
