    Hi,

I have a BMW i3 car when i rang one of the famous BMW dealer in M50 Dublin and asked that i would like to do annual routine service of the car and what is the price. They told they cannot give the price until i drop the car keys and they have a look at the car.

As per my understanding all car service have a basic standard price then they charge extra if they want to repair or change anything.

This is the first time i am hearing such things , they will not disclose the annual price for the service. I am beginning to think that it is a kind of trap , I am beginning to loose confidence in the whole BMW service.

did anyone else have such experience.??

I thought as per consumer rights person has a right to know the value before they give the car to annual service.

Drop car in and ask them to quote for service works required.
    If not happy, walk away.

    Drive away? :p

Seems like a waste of time to me, I'd want the fixed service price in advance too.

The BMW key is placed into a reader and that dictates what service items the car requires. Try here, although it might only be for ICE cars: https://www.bmwservice.ie/contentv3/

Possibly but might need a charge before going anywhere so I nice walk might be in order.

EV is set servicing, so the key reader shouldn't be required.
For the REX model its around 400 sterling in the UK.

I have the 94Ah BEV and its first service in BMW London was 269 sterling.

Its set servicing every 2 years so they should have a price to tell you.
Call Frank Keane on the Naas Road as they sell the i Brand too.

I agree OP, drop in to Dealer A and leave it there for a few hours and Price A, what are you supposed to do with your time off, drive and leave with Dealer B then C and so on.
Crazy stuff, they should have a price of a service, it's literally not rocket science and then phone you concerning any elective or recommended costs they come across during the service

If it’s any help the service schedule is two years as already confirmed, price was set at €400 with main dealer on south side of m50, now the boom is back it may have increased, included usuals such as brake fluid change, Rex oil, filter & cabin filter. I’m now out of warranty so won’t be returning to the main dealer for the privilege of handing over €400.

This dealer has slowly got their act together, I was originally told by the service ‘expert’ that the service schedule was every 25,000km which was nonsense.

I really like to see that car what can drive 25 000km without service. The oil be extreme dark and the tiny metal parts be everywhere. The first service must be on first 1000km for brand new car. After that every year or after specific mileage, whichever comes first. 2 years regular service are scam

Hopefully the original poster will disregard the above comment and run with the service schedule as stated by BMW, it may be worth noting that it is also condition based and the idrive may indicate a shorter interval. My last service was at 32,000km, it’s now at 84,000 and due it’s service in August, 24 months since the last one.
I would estimate that the Rex has run for 4hrs since the last service.

James at Hybrid & Electric Cars Cork serviced my REx to BMW spec for €295. All filters and oil changed, full diagnostic, service uploaded to BMW, courtesy car for the duration, i3 on charge when I arrived to collect.

Are you aware we are talking about the electric i3?

The oil may have only run for a few dozen hours during those 25k so may be fine.

Mine is about to hit 80k and has only been serviced twice based on the bmw schedule.

Methinks that poster hasn't a notion what a REx actually is..

The op didn't mention whether it was a rex or not.

    Exactly.

Which makes @CarService's post all the stranger.

Take a look at his post history. Its funny if anything!

I'd say he stumbled onto this thread and hasnt a clue about EV's or the i3 Rex.

Looks like my 5y service pack was good value if a service costs €400. I think that was roughly what the service pack cost. €400 for servicing an i3 is funny. I have no idea what they could possibly do for that kind of money on a car with virtually no service items and one where brake pads and discs last a long time. And those items would be extra in any event if they needed doing.

It’s only €400 for the Rex. So that means oil, oil filter and coolant changes. Possible brake fluid too. Then the electric side of things which is a glorified NCT IMO.

And it's every couple of years (usually), as opposed to every year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4 DMZ99

Yeah that’s because all they do is a brake fluid change which should be done every two years.

Apologies, I wasn't referring to the OP. I was referring to Carservice's post in response to Handpref.

And the oil, oil filter, micro filter and air filter. Your forgetting about the REX.
