    I need a power tool for straight cross-cuts, I've a budget of about 60-100e.

I was looking into the 'Evolution' branded circular saws and mitre saws but they seem to get pretty crappy reviews.

I have an Evolution circular saw. It's fine, particularly with a decent woodworking blade on it.

Nobex mitre saw, might not be in your budget though.

I bought a sheppach on for c 85 euros, works fine, it is a basic one, wont do for fine joinery cuts, I had a Electrobeckum which cost me 400 quid in 1988, it was a dream saw, the de walt equivalent is now close to 1,000 euro

So what size cut: width/depth/ and what standard of finish/squareness do you need?

I'm making a casting box for greensand aluminium casting. So the 'box' is two halves that need to join up as accurately as possible to ensure a good cast. So as square as reasonably possible really.

I'm using some pieces which are around 25x45mm or something like that.

The nobex will be a lot more accurate than a cheap mitre saw.

That looks fantastic! I didn't know such things existed.

Have an evolution and I've had zero problems with it. It's been through the mire. Stud work, flooring, architrave, fascia boards and gutters.

No problem recommending it to anyone. Great tool.

Whatever saw you get, taking ten minutes to set up the fence properly makes a night and day difference to the accuracy of your cuts

I have that one too and find it good,
you do need to spend time getting it setup right with a decent square.
and check it every time you use the miter etc etc .

Yep, I wouldn't rely on the detents for accurate mitres
