Hi, just wondering if I have 2 children, both over the age of 18 but living with me and my wife in the same rented accommodation, would the hap scheme be given to us as a family or just to me and my wife as a couple and the kids aren't counted in as they're over 18?

Wouldn’t you be better off asking the relevant local authority that? I seem to remember you having another thread about this a while back.

The kids income will be taken into account in the means test for HAP. Your contribution to the rent will reflect their weekly income be it wages or SW. If they are earning enough money it might even disqualify you as a family from a HAP.
Every adult in the house who is in receipt of either wages or SW must contribute to the weekly rent.

It'll take your children's income into consideration also.

Surely between 4 adults you can afford the rent? Can't be that expensive.

You need to be on the social housing list for your area to qualify for HAP. This involves filling a form and then a meeting being scheduled with an investigative officer at county council offices. Once you're on the list you are then eligible for HAP. The onus is on you to find a landlord that will accept. Your own landlord might not and many won't. Theres a fair bit involved in being a HAP landlord including an inspection which might lead to work having to be done to meet standards. HAP won't cover the full price of your rent, you'll have to pay the balance + the rent for a council house on top of that. Your childrens income will be taken into account. The familys net income would have to be under threshold for your county for eg. in kerry the threshold is 30000 net.
