Go for wired or wireless house alarm?

    Hi,

Just bought a house in North Tipp, house looks to be wired for an alarm but none was ever installed.

I'd be looking for a basic setup that I could monitor myself, possible with an app, I really don't want another monthly bill on my hands for a monitored system!

Would I be better in using the existing wired system or should I go wireless?

I know next to nothing about alarm systems so any help appreciated.

    Wired.

Most systems handle both. Wired is cheaper and does not require multiple battery changes

You can mix and match too

Does anyone have any recommendations on who to contact in the limerick area?

Got a quote for the following:

    1 x HKC SW - 10270 Control Panel
1 x HKC SABB External Sounder
1 x HKC echo internal sounder
    1 x HKC GSMwifi card
    8 x HKC H01JBWR combined contact + J/B
    1 x 12v 7ah Battery.

    Price including VAT was €1100.

Does this seem a little overpriced? Basically this will only cover downstairs :(

A little yes. Also allow for paying for each app you download and the ongoing monthly or annual subscription fees.
Also are there no motion sensors??
Shop around a bit more would be my advice.

Thanks for the response, trying to shop around but having a bit of difficulty finding installers / suppliers in my area (limerick / clare / north tipp).
I might get a single motion detector but trying to keep costs down.

Most good installers would insist. We would not install a standard system without at least one motion sensor. Also are there only magnetic contacts on the windows and doors. There should be inertia shock sensors also.
