Hello, any handy ideas of a way to cover over the outer part of this window to stop the light coming through? I didnt want to get velux blinds as they maybe expensive.

I could not see your picture. But we use these in the kids room. Will block our 90%.

I hope you don't think I am a messer, (can't see the pics sorry) the only thing that works are those eye masks. Can recommend those in Tiger shops. Brilliant things.

Blackout blinds are pants, they leak either side IMO.

I don't know if you are referring to young kids waking up early, different story!

But the eye masks are brilliant otherwise.

I second the gro blinds and you’ll be able to bring them on hols with you if needed. Or you could always buy blackout lining off the roll in hickey’s , hem it and attach with cord and hooks

I purchased two of the Portable Blackout Blinds for the non velux bedroom windows in our house. As mentioned they block out 90%-95% of the light.

For our Velux windows I purchased blinds from https://www.roofwindowblinds.ie/. I got original Velux and they were far cheaper here than direct from Velux. They also do a generic brand of blinds that are cheaper.

Just get a blackout roller blind?
They dont need to only go on vertical walls...

However, not that blackout roller blinds always let some light around the edges, so depends on just how dark you need it to be?

Also, do you want permanent or temporary?

OP, is it that you want to block light while teh window is open? because for a closed window, the velux blinds are great.

We moved into a new house last summer. We had no curtains for any of the rooms so we used the thick cardboard from the packing of the furniture. flattened it out and cut it roughly to suit the size of the ope around the window and pushed it in....its still there is some of the rooms and it blocks out everything. It will be staying there for a while more!

    DONT USE BLACK BAGS!!!

I learnt the hard way, the sun in through the window onto black caused the glass to crack. Maybe on the outer section but nowhere near the glass.
