    Hi,
Just wanted to check something. As per the thread title, if your name is not on the lease and you're paying rent to a housemate who pays it forward to the landlord, do you have any tenancy rights?

No, you are a licensee not a tenant.

If the landlord is not residing in the property you may be entitled to have your name added to the tenancy.
A tenancy becomes a Part 4 tenancy on the earliest date at which one of the tenants has been in occupation for 6 months. During the existence of a Part 4 tenancy any lawful licensee of the tenant/s may request the landlord to be allowed to become a tenant of the tenancy. The landlord may not unreasonably refuse such a request and must give his/her acceptance in writing.

Am I right to say you need to specifically request this?
    It's not automatic.
