Hi, im looking for thoughts from someone with experience of artificial grass and dogs.. i’m mainly looking to get it done so its easier to clean up after the dog. I am concerned however that if he tries to dig or bite it, its €2.5k down the drain!

What are your experiences with this stuff?

Bought a house 3 years ago with poorly laid synthetic grass - basically just thrown down on soil. Dog poohs and pees and you get mushrooms and other fungi growing which are toxic or at best cause digestive problems. Had the garden completely redone (not just for dog) and had the soil removed and a proper build up of stone, gravel etc under new artificial grass. No regrowth whatsoever. It is definitely easier to collect the Pooh. But, you still need to maintain it. Our dog generally uses the same section and you need to hose or power wash it down over time. Obviously less when there’s a lot of rain but you need to do it even in the winter every few weeks or else use a light hosing each time you collect. Otherwise the urine will stink and small bits of faeces will remain potentially causing sickness.

We had. A patch of the old grass nailed to a board to see if she’d use that but no go. It’s a very good product for dogs and/or kids. This is a dog that ripped out every shrub in the first garden but she never attacked the artificial grass once it was properly laid and pinned down.
