Bathroom smells

Hi we have recently moved into our new home - a renovation and new extension. We’re having an issue with our bathrooms. Not always, but every now and then, there’s a real stink coming from the drains that can be smelt throughout the house. The contractor has brought the plumber back 2-3 times. They keep saying the wet room drain is drying out from infrequent use, and to either leave the window open or throw a cup of water down if the shower not being used daily. This seems a bit unusual, no?!

We got a new bathroom a while back and let's just say our rude plumber christened it free of charge. Smell went after an hour or so..

The problem you have is that the water trap at each appliance which acts as a seal against smell entering the property is not functioning properly.
It's true that they can go dry from lack of use but its more likely that the water is being pulled from a trap at one of your bathroom fittings. This can be due to the plumbing setup whereby the flushing of a toilet or emptying of a bath can draw the water from hand basin trap for example.
A good plumber should steer you in right direction.
