Hi folks. Anyone considering this option. Would a solar well pump & electric fence system qualify. Would be very handy for out farms etc.

Just reading about Pat Smith pushing for solar energy(has vested interests) but wondering is anyone else interested in micro solar/wind on their farm

Not really an option for dairy farmers until they buy back surplus power at a decent price. Energy efficent lights would definitely be worth looking at though.

I looked into small turbine a few years back and it was marginal, how about the solar for heating water

Solar is best used as produced so if your paying 13.5 cents per kwh. When you produce it it saves you that amount. If you dont have a constant daytime load to use it, you will need battery storage and the feckers know how to charge ya for that.
More EV's on the roads will bring down the cost of battery per kwh.
Right now you can build your own from 150 euro per kwh.
If you have 200 panels in an acre and no connection to the grid but 4G or fiber internet connection. Could earn anywhere from 3000 to 6000 euro per year then minus your cost of internet connection.

How? Running a mast for 5G?

Use computers, that are hired out, they use the power.
risky, but good up side if goes well.

150 euro per kwh is price to build your own battery not solar panels.

Just been told I will require planning permission for panels if I want to get the grant on them .
    Is this true ?
Would cost more to get planning than the grant is worth

If you go above the exemption level for shed/house or ground mount solar array, your going to need planning.

I don't know if you get the grant by doing it yourself?

If your getting an installer to do it, they should do this as part of their install service anyway.

Would a solar powered pump lift water 20 feet?

Yes easily, many will lift multiples of that height. Obviously you will need to purchase one with the required capability.

I have an out office and lambing shed running totally on solar. Mainly laptop, printer and lights. I use a gas bottle for heating and boiling water. I plan to replace this with a wood fired stove.
