The Homebond Manual (7th edition) - it's both out of date and also out of print and almost impossible to get your hands on - but very well worth the read. Some things, particularly in terms of insulation and air-tightness have moved on since it was written but you'll pick up a lot from it. The local library might have it.

There's a leaving cert Construction Technology book by Hickey that might be a helpful read too.

Homebond have said that there is an update on the way, but not in hardback. It will be an online facility, like the NHBC portal across the pond... Apparently they are waiting for final Part L updates before it goes live.....

Can usually be picked up second hand.

Look for books on self-building, they will help you a lot in planning your house and dealing with the contractor.

The Housebuilder's Bible by Mark Brinkley is the one most usually recommended, but there are others by Haynes, Dummies, etc.

I would download and print these off. These are your bible.

They are obviously very detailed, however they are easy to follow. Theres plenty of diagrams.
