    I too have some fond memories of festival nights.

    I also remember The Tops of the Town and its junior compatriot Tops of the Clubs (youth clubs) in the late 60s

    At that time live music of all sorts was plentiful around town also.

    Essentially the music scene for all tastes was buzzing.

    Filthy lucre is the answer.

    The cost of putting on a show of a winning caliber is north of €60,000 these days, and to travel with a show like this a Society would need at least €30k subsidy.
    So like the Tops money became the issue, and to keep it alive you would need to be pumping up to €500k minimum to keep it going and that would be on a shoe string.
