Scanlines etc in MAME

Anybody here bother with scanlines in Mame ?

I wanted to try them out (as I'm running my Cab with a 19 inch 4:3 LCD) but I'm getting terrible performance with bgfx.

    My setup is:
    • Mame64 0.182
    • Core i3 @ 3.3Ghz
    • 4GB RAM
    • GeForce 210 Graphics card (Yes, I know it's not great)

I've tried some optimisations also, but no help - here's what I tried:
    throttle 0
    sleep 0

    artwork_crop 0
    use_backdrops 0
    use_overlays 0
    use_bezels 0
    use_cpanels 0
    use_marquees 0

    video bgfx

    bgfx_screen_chains crt-geom

Any ideas as to what's causing this ?

I know it's not a superfast setup, but I thought I should be able to have some screen effects !

Are you getting input lag or screen tearing?

Read into MAME hlsl - I posted a config file setup here a while back that works great. It's more CRT emulation (so scanlines, CRT curve)

Can't seem to find where it was posted!

I'll take a look, but I though that HLSL was more power hungry than BGFX ?

Anyhow - setting "effect" to "scanlines" seems to work, except I don't get the nice rounded corners on the screen...
    Must read up on HLSL

I'm not very up on MAME tech, but I think BGFX has superceded HLSL?

Can you describe the problem, maybe it's just my tv, but I'm not seeing a huge difference between the two pics

The game stutters like mad with BGFX enabled.
Can you not hear the sound on the videos ?

 May just get a CRT ;)

Although your streams seem to work well currently.

Never heard of BGFX! Although I'm pretty out of the emulation loop. Once I get something working I tend to just use it for an age. Must give it a look.

HLSL has never given me any grief running it on laptops with onboard graphics, so I don't think the requirement in that regard is particularly high.

Strange then - I thought my basic hardware would be sufficient - anyhoo, the scanline effect in the MAME config is fine for now :)
