Brave man! He is well regarded as the CEO of Fingal County Council, and previously had a senior role in eircom. He started there when it was the P&T, working up the telephone poles in North Dublin, but was moved fairly quickly up the organisation.

I don't think he was a good choice,no medical background, a number cruncher, hasn't got a clue what to do,he loves power and wealth. Newspaper clipping ,IN HIS first full day on the job, new HSE boss Paul Reid warned that the health service that breaching budgets can “no longer be considered an option.” According to the Irish Times, Reid sent a strongly worded memo to senior HSE management seeking an... Fast forward a year, the HSE can ( thankfully ) be expected to bust its budget by a record amount. Mr Reid seems to be well able to adapt and respond to circumstances. Maybe not such a bad choice ?

At the cost of service development across the whole of Ireland, he has achieved this "budget busting". His appointment and policy incurred significant knock back. There is purpose built buildings sitting idle as we speak because of the implications of his regime.

I think he's been found out now anyway and is way out of his depth. In fact if you look at his C.V. he should never have been within a sniff of a role such as this. No medical background and his entire career has been working in bloated semi-states.

He could not or would not answer basic questions on RTE news last night. Despite the stage managed, fanfare with the Army trucks, Garda outriders and RTE there to film it; the PPE equipment from China is faulty.
The figures around testing have been rendered meaningless since it's taking (a) so long to actually get a test and (b) so long to get a result.
There's a serious morale problem now among HSE frontline staff, who cannot trust the equipment that they are being asked to use.
Luckily for Paul Reid, the media in this country are 'green jersey' merchants rather that actual journalists who spend more time criticising Boris and Trump rather than being a bit more critical with their questioning.
He's been promoted way beyond his level of competence and I'd question the rationale for appointing him in the first place.

If anyone remembers when this all started he came on rte 6 o clock news and told the country we were well prepared and had plenty of masks and gowns etc.
