Chartered Accountants admission to membership

Hi all,

I have a query regarding admission to membership with Chartered Accountants. I have passed all my exams, all done and dusted on that front. I have my Competency Diary almost done. I am about to finish the last entry to cover all the required working days in the diary.

Because I come from Accounting Technicians I need 796 working days over 4 years. I contacted Chartered Accountants in order to be sure that this will be my last entry and how should I proceed after this and they told that still I would not be able to apply for membership before October because of the 4 years rule for Technicians even though all the required working days are already there and in fact I have a bunch of overtime I will not be able to use for anything. By the time I am done with this I might have close to 840 working days of experience (not to speak of all the prior experience that by mistake I didn't ask to use when I went in) and still they are telling me is not enough.

Can anyone give me an idea of their experience applying for membership? In my case is starting to be a bit messy that after all the work I still cannot apply for membership and I really don't know why

The part where I have more than the 796 working days that should be entered in the Diary over the 4 years and I still need to wait for some reason.

It seems as far as the institute is concerned the four year period ends at the end of September. So you need to make sure you have the required days within that period and you can’t apply before then.

I have never mention anything about September. I didn't registered and started the Diary in September and I already have the working days required for the Competency Diary within the 4 years. After that I don't have to fill out anything in the Diary. They have several dates through the year to request admission so that means there is no set date for people to apply but it depends on whether you have the requirements or not. I seem to have them, but for some reason is not enough.

What I am asking is what are the experiences of other people regarding admission and if anything like this has happened to others
