If I get sky installed and they give me a sky q box do I have to get a sky q compatible lnb or can I insist they give the usual one?

You can request a hybrid lnb. The lnb has to be changed for Q and if you are lucky, an obliging installer will do it for you.
There's been stories where some installers haven't been helpful so I would recommend raising it during every contact made with sky if upgrading.

Do you require the standard LNB for another legacy satellite receiver in the house? If so, they will generally fit the hybrid LNB for you. My brother did this when he upgraded to SkyQ early last year.

Thanks for the replies guys. I haven't got a dish installed yet but am considering moving from virgin to sky. I'd like the hybrid lnb so I could add an additional box if needed in the future or if I cancel sky that I wouldn't have to change lnb to put in a fta receiver.
