How far to deport a stray cat?

Few weeks ago a stray cat arrived, sprayed his aroma all over the shed and ate our own cats' food but I managed to capture him. Brought him about 5km up the road where there are houses in the hope he'd bother those people instead but now he's back and won't leave.

I would have brought him further only that it was very late and I really had to make the most of the few hours of sleep I could still get. I brought one about 15km away a few years ago and I think that one also came back

How far do they need to be brought to stop them from returning?

I know somebody who made three attempts at this before the cat stayed away. He eventually went 13 miles, going around roundabouts a few times to confuse the cat in the process. Easier to just bring it to a shelter

There's no shortage of animal rescues you could contact to help the cat, how would you feel if your cat was lost and someone was doing to it what you are doing to this lost cat?

When I lived in Leenane we had a couple of cats that wouldn’t feck off. One of neighbours put them on the bus to Galway...........they were back in the garden the next day!

I love the thought of trying to disorient the cat with roundabouts. That's classic.

Did he think the cat would remember the route? :D

Most people would find it hard to drop off a cat over 200 miles away on this Island.

Cork to Belfast is a little over that.

Erm. Sounds a bit of a sh**ty thing to do. Just bring it too an animal rescue/shelter, rather having some worried owner or child wondering where their pet is.

Just call an animal rescue. Seriously, why go to all that trouble 9f capturing and transporting it when there are organisations to rescue, treat and home the poor thing.
