Cat Diarrhea & Sneezing

    Hi Guys!

    My girlfriend adopted a cat from a shelter. She is a lover of animals and especially cats, she has excellent food brands, litter, toys, and plays with the cat a lot, treats it like a child, the cat is adorable and lovable and purrs away and seems very content with human interaction.

    However, it has had some diarrhea and sneezing since being adopted just over 2 weeks ago.

    1.5 weeks ago the vet gave some antibiotics and such and she has been a little better, but still sneezing sometimes. My girlfriend is worried of course and taking her tomorrow.

    Has anyone experienced this with their cat? Someone thought it might be stress? The cat is about 4-5 months old for reference, and only spends time indoors in the house, is not allowed outside for risk of running away etc.

    It's possible she picked up cat flu at the shelter, or from being stray before hand. Much like in humans, antibiotics won't actually help with the flu itself, but they would help with any secondary respiratory infections etc.

    Diarrhoea could be from the change in food. What brand are you feeding? It takes a while for a cat to adjust to new foods anyway, but it would be good to know what you are feeding.

    Definitely have her checked at the vet again to make sure nothing has worsened and there are no secondary infections. If it is still just the flu, it can take a while to come round. If she's having diarrhoea thats likely to make her dehydrated, which wono't help with any flu/infection. So make sure to have water around for her.

    Also, has the cat been tested for FIV? That can cause a bit of chronic sneezing/runny eyes and also make the cat more susceptible to viruses in general.
