4, according to the promo email today. No indication of which technologies.

So four chargers at the Gorey MSA? Anyone know any more? Any pics? Any idea if they'll be available to use right from the opening date? (Thursday 28 March IIRC)

I was there earlier. 4 spaces painted but only 1 triple head charger. I couldn't get a proper look as the ESB technicians were working on it.
They either seemed oblivious to the charger capabilities or just didn't fancy talking about it. They vaguely agreed it was the usual 40-50kW charger and not capable of 100+.
I asked them if any more were being installed but they didn't know. They said that would be up to Circle K primarily.
It will be added to the map later on today.

2 triple heads would likely be classed as 4 chargers by eCars, 2DC+2AC

That seems to be the usual setup. 4 spaces painted and even a second plinth for another unit to serve 2 of the spots, but only one charger.

That's the way it is at M1 Lusk and Castlebellingham. At least those sites are set up to allow another unit to be added with just small work.

Was there tonight and that's the way it is set up. It did seam to output a higher rate for longer then others iv used. Pluged in at 32% and i seen 49kW. The one in Lucan was showing 42kW when i pluged in at 16%

What is the rational for not just installing the two ?

The fox hunter pub or that space just before Texaco garage in Lucan on the n4 would be the perfect place for a massive bank of chargers.

Cost of the unit I would assume.

That's the same layout at the M1 Applegreens. The infrastructure is there for a second unit, but just one fitted.

Until these unit's are funding themselves, don't expect multiples.

They announced 4, and install one.
    Typical crap from esb.

Extremely short sighted. Wouldn't have cost that much more to fit another one.

If all public fast chargers were doubled in numbers, with charges for charging, we would be good for at least another year. That would cost just 5 million (minus the revenue it would generate). A drop in the government budget and a very strong signal of support for electrification.

Agree - Unkel - and especially with all the talk of carbon taxes, could be an interesting "carrot" to go with the stick.

In Dundee they are making a much better job of this.

Highlights AGAIN that half arsed Irish thinking is a bigger issue for EV usage then available (both car and charging) technology.

Looks like the Dutch are on the money for EV charging and we know about Norway making EV strides.

Edit by EV usage I mean the practicality of EV drivers using their cars everyday in all types of driving situations

Many new EV owners over there don't even bother installing home chargers now. Night rate is not cheap, there are many, many on street slow chargers and lots of fast chargers out and about (no queuing ever) that don't cost much more to use than home electricity and a lots of people have work charging

That combined with no subsidy for a home charger and in a country with 10 times the population density of Ireland, very few new homes have had driveways for decades (and many people in cities live in apartments)

As I think I've said before - in the future any place you can legally and safely park a car is a potential charge point. This is clearly easier at some locations then others.

It's a matter of what type of solution works at a location and what the EV driver needs both local and visitors in the area are.

Take visitors - are they staying overnight (destination charging or stopping just for lunch (rapid charging).

Always remember the ICE car did not start it's career with a huge network of stop and refuel anywhere filling station network.

You actually had to go into a chemist (during normal opening hours) and buy petrol by the jerrycan :D

I see new EVs in about 10 years largely have wireless induction slow charging and a vast network of induction charging parking spaces as well as some strategically located multi bay fast charging stations - say about 300-400 in the country (we currently have about 1200 petrol stations in Ireland - half of what it was a few decades ago). With fast charging a standard car from 20-80% in less than 10 minutes
