Triple tuner STB recommendations

    Hi,

My Edision OS Mini has been acting up lately (second tuner appears to have completely packed in :().

So I'm in the market for a new STB and looking for some recommendations please.

So far I've looked at the Zgemma H7S, Tiviar Alpha Plus and Mutant HD51. They all seem similarly spec'd. I have an old USB DVB-T tuner, so not too bothered that the Mutant doesn't come with a built-in terrestrial tuner.

Would love to hear feedback on the above STBs or recommendations on other boxes.

Happy to spend anything under €200, but really want a box that is smooth, performs well and has 2 DVB-S tuners. Up until recently I was very happy with the Edision box; it was a big improvement in terms on performance over the Amiko Alien 2.

    Thanks!

Iv e been using Zgemma H7S for about 5 wks now without any issues.
Its running Openvix (supplied), setup with Sky-type skin (BlueHD).
No problems recording, very reliable - unlike the Samsung smart TV!
One niggly issue - the HDMI-CEC setup is erratic ie when I switch on from remote, TV doesnt always start up. Still not sure if the problem is the TV, the remote, the cable or the STB.....
    Very pleased, good buy

Cheers. Yeah the Zgemma is the one I'm probably going to go for. Hopefully it will arrive before any potential customs issues from brexit! :p

I'd try re flashing the os mini first. You'd never know how it could help.

What's the difference between this and the Tiviar ?

Zgemma H7s specs are a bit higher and has Kodi app available. Recommended!

Where’s the cheapest place to get h7 at the moment? Or the Tiviar AlphaPlus if it’s still available?

Have been using the Mutant HD51 since the turn of the year. Upgraded from Alien 2. it is very smooth, hassle free. Picture quality is good for SD to very good for HD. Had been a bit worried that the Picture Quality wouldn't be as good as the Alien, but am quite happy with it.
I dont use IPTV, but everything else works well. (Kodi is a bit slow, but I haven't put the love in to smoothen it out.)

The only enigma2 box I’ve used is the Tiviar, but the Zgemma does appear to be a more futureproof option. The Tiviar is now getting old and may not be supported in future releases of enigma2.

The Kodi app is a big deal, as it’s a very functional front end. It doesn’t work properly on older boxes such as the Tiviar. The Zgemma H7 also supports UHD.

So I got the Zgemma H7. I have to say its very impressive. Super responsive. Switches between terrestrial and satellite tuners very quickly. Overall very happy with it.

The one negative I have with it is with the angle of the remote control signal receiver. You have to point the remote almost directly at the box for the signal to be received. Has anyone else noticed this problem?

Out of interest I did re-flash my old Edision OS Mini, but it didn't fix the problem with the second tuner. It'll still be re-used in another room as it still has one good sat and terrestrial tuner.

Me too, for the remote! Also CEC issue which or may not be related to remote (sometimes when stb wakes, it doesnt wakes tv - maybe 10% of time).

Speed of tuner change - we have all in one epg, so not an issue. For years in our house, Sky News is 1, BBC1 is 2, Bbc2 is 3, etc, so I placed Irish channels at end of epg, ie P-, if you are on Sky 1, which is default. Works well, and passes wifey test!

The Zgemma is made by Air Digital in China.

The Tiviar/Formuler brand is made by Fortis in Korea.

No matter who makes the box, the key to buying the right one is durability and most importantly a good support community in english!

    http://www.openvix.co.uk/index.php/downloads/edision-images-2/edision-os-mini/

Copy the file to the Mini, Blue button, Vix , and choose the image.

You can use a USB tuner for the third one. so €10 from ebay or China.
But it still doesn't support the X-Box one because still on the older 4.11 kernel
