So guys, what would you recommend on a road bike for up to €2.5k. I'm open to all options, from Planet X, Ribble and Canyon, to the bigger brands. I'd like to have a groupset of at least Shimano Ultegra and decent wheels.

This one has caught my eye so far but would love some suggestions https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/CBPXRRFOR/planet-x-ec-130e-force-22-aero-road-bike

Whats it for? Racing, sportives, commuting, leisure....

Personally PX wouldn't even register in my list of bike company/shops to buy from but that's just me.

Mostly long endurance, but I'd also use it as an alternative to my Tri Bike for hillier triathlons

    Hard to look past the aul Canyons at that money;

There's one for sale on the adverts subforum I think.

That does look lovely. Are the lead in times as long as they suggest? Apparently that one wouldn't be ready for delivery until the end of april?

Nearly pulled the trigger on a Canyon last year but the wait for one 8 weeks in my case coupled with the use of non standard parts in the headsets etc and expensive replacements made me put my card back in my wallet. Lovely bikes but I'd also advise sitting on one before you buy for sizing.

Plus 1 to this about the sizing.
It's ok if you have measurements from an existing bike but don't take their own size calculator as gospel

If the one in the adverts forum fits you it'd be a great deal as I think it has aero bars too. Then spend the rest of the budget on a carbon Endurace or Ultimate with Ultegra from the Canyon warehouse store which won't be much more than 7kg

If you don't have to buy new and if you're a 54 or 56, then there's quite a selection on donedeal at the minute. 5-6 grand bikes for less than half price!

Bought a Trek emonda SL 6 on adverts with okayish wheels, practically brand new, also have a 2017 one with carbon wheels too, going to swap wheels on to the black Matt one, €1600 it cost me. Current new model about €2,600 . Great bargains to be had if you bide your time and keep checking sites.

A 54 frame would be more suitable for me. Will have a look there.... Thanks

If the right bike came along, I'd consider it!

I got one of these about a week ago, great bike, did my first sportive at the weekend on it. very comfortable.https://www.rutlandcycling.com/bikes/road-bikes/specialized-roubaix-comp-2018-carbon-road-bike-purple_379847 the color is a shiny glittery purple, hard to describe but looks class.

The company were great to deal with to be fair, although dispatch we a bit hit and miss, allow a minimum 10 days for delivery.

Good times choosing a bike, enjoy.

None of these sales have anything whatsoever to do with me.

All 54's that I would certainly consider. - Also, prices are only asking prices and some of those bikes have been for sale for quite a while.

Interestingly I came across this bike myself today, before seeing your post. Looks like a great bike.

I have a Planet X Spitfire titanium that I'm very pleased with.. I bought as a bare frame in their sale over a year ago for €800... They were selling them off in their new years sale in January this year for a mere €700

Planet X do a complete Spitfire titanium bike build with Shimano ultegra 8000 and Vision wheels for €2.047,99

The Spitfire gives a buttery smooth and stable ride on poorly surfaced back roads, even on 23c tyres.. It's geometry was designed by Mark Reilly, but the frames are manufactured in China by Waltly titanium. The only downside is, if you Race a lot of tight circuit races with lots of corners, it's low 73mm bottom bracket drop may put you at a slight disadvantage....

Oh and head tubes on these frames are quite short, so with a carbon steerer fork, you are limited to 40mm of spacers - my size large has a 15cm head tube..

If you prefer a more responsive bike, you might also consider the Planet X Holdsworth- strada Reynolds 953 stainless steel for €2.560,00 It has the same geometry as the Spitfire, but it has less bottom bracket drop of 59mm , so you can pedal round most corners in those crits without the fear of grounding a pedal... I read a very positive review of one of these on Bikeradar recently... I really want one, but these are gonna be horribly expensive post Brexit....when our customs add a ton of import duty...

Thanks Juan, I ended up going with the Planet X EC-130E. Price came down again on it this week and it's had decent reviews with a FULL Ultegra Groupset. Paid in Sterling so it was €1575. Will probably put a pair of Mavic Cosmic Elites on it in a couple of months, but think I'm after getting a decent deal on it at the price level. https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/EBPXEC130R8000GS/planet-x-ec130-e-r8000gs

These waltly titanium bikes look really enticing. Cycling Maven did a complete build video on youtube. Great bang for buck. Reassuring to see they are rebranded as brands we are familiar with . They are all cheeks on the same arse aren't they . Same with carbon Same factories. Different decals.
