    Hi folks,

I know there's a lot of civil servants who post in this forum and I would love a little bit of advice.

I have applied for a HEO role on a 2 year fixed-term contract.

Does anyone have experience with having landed a similar role, and has it led to permanency at all or have you been cut adrift after to years back onto the market - is there any opportunities to become a permanent civil servant or transfer at the end of the contract?

    Much obliged for any responses

way back when my first CO role was two year fixed term, was extended each year until i made the magic 4 years unbroken service

its kind of anyones guess as to whether it would be goodbye at the end or whether they extend/renew. talk to them if its a concern and try to get a feel tho theyd be foolish to guarantee anything

There's absolutely no guarantee your contract will be renewed, but IF you're successful, the experience will stand to you in future interviews.

If there are existing staff on contracts, then the job is probably lined up for one of them... Save training a new person.

Thanks a mil folks for the replies, something snoopsheep said about unbroken service has jarred something loose.... I'm a public servant at the minute, so if I actually took this job I'd lose my service wouldn't I? I'd need to find a permanent civil service job to carry it over??

i dont think thats a given. if you ensure that the service transfer happens on the day- ensuring that your time in the current role finished say sunday to monday, not friday to monday- then it neednt be a break in service

in general, service is transferable and its very common. as always, if in doubt ask very clearly in writing for assurance, but once both bodies are on the public service transfer list (or whatever its called)

now, you may find your service stands for eg pension, but you might lose it for eg eligibility for competition, so think about all the possibilities
