There is an old stone wall on one of my boundaries between my proprty and the main road.

Its crumbling fairly badly and its ancient so I don't think theres any proper footings/foundation

Its not far off 6 foot on the road side.

Do I need planning permission to rebuild this wall on a proper foundation?

How close to the road is it as with any renovation or new walls in many cases have to be brought in further from the road.

This may not be the case for you.

If you are replacing like for like there should be no issues and once under the correct height.

I'm on phone and cant find link for actual height but it's easy found on council sites.

Hi, its a foot or two in from the road in places.

1.2 metres seems to be the height for a new wall but if the wall was originiall 5-6 foot can it be replaced like for like?

    I'll get some photos.

I would say you will have to bring it in from the road approximately around a meter from what I see out there.

It's actually a fantastic idea as it leaves safe space.

Now this is in Dublin and a few other places so best check your council for up to date information.

Do not move the wall unless you are specifically requested to by the council.

It should be very easy to contact your local authority and get a local area engineer out to have a quick look and advise. They are in the road all the time.

On the planning permission. If you are making the wall safe, cleaning it up etc, and the end result will be consistent with how the wall is/should be standing today .. Then your probably ok.

If you move the wall however, and the end result is as wall over 1.2 meters, then you definitely need permission
