I worked full time as an administrator in an Irish University (fixed term contracts - no gaps in service) for over 7 years. I also got a preserved defined benefit pension before they closed them to new members. I was informed by the university that i could transfer this to a public or civil service pension scheme at a later date. I went off working in the private sector for 6 years. Just wondering if I was to join the civil service would I have any chance of incremental credit for prior public service. I was informed by DPER that a university is regarded as public service.

You should be able to apply for it. It depends if the work/grade are comparable
