Gutters installation

    Hi Guys,

Just looking for peoples views on this.

I employed a reputable company to replace just the gutters on my house - not the down pipes. The job cost me €900.

The guys cut a hole out of the new gutter and did a doctor diy job with silicone to fit the new gutter into the existing down pipe. Bit of a make shift job in my view.

The company said they give a ten year guarantee with the job. It seems a a bit of a make shift job to me. I feel it won't last long before the silicone will fail and start to leak.

See photos attached. Would you be happy with this. If not, what would you do?

Fobbed it off by saying they've done the job this way for years along with other jobs and never has there been a problem. Followed by...they've been in this trade for 25 years.

Agreed to install the proper joining down pipe connector without any argument after I said with our climate that their doctored job wouldn't last very long.

Thats a plasterboard screw tacking the downpipe to the collar.

Ask them of they think that will last .. and whether or not its acting as a leaf catcher was a wise thing to install on a gutter.

Probably been doing it for years and nobody has probably noticed it. Bad form when considering the proper part is about 3 euro

After raising issue they instantly replied and have offered to redo it properly.
The company have loads of great reviews so they seemed to be a good choice. Will be interesting to see how good a job they do in rectifying it.
