'Here's a pic of me at work' - AFLW star hits back at 'derogatory comments' in photo

Don't know if there's a thread on this already but this went under the radar a bit over the weekend.

    https://www.the42.ie/tayla-harris-picture-photograph-4549669-Mar2019/

Essentially a female AFL star suffers derogatory misogynistic comments over an athletic pose in the picture included.

The pic was later deleted giving the trolls/incels what they wanted but has since been re-uploaded with the above headline.

Found it a depressing thing to be honest that a female athlete has to be subjected to this ****e and it opens up a whole other debate about social media etiquette and common decency and regulation.

I don't watch women's sport and have no particular interest in doing so, but female athletes are an obvious inspiration to young girls around the world and in this day and age this nonsense shouldn't the case.

    Thoughts?

I've travelled a lot but by and far one of the things I've never forgotten was the ozzie males lack of manners, blatant ignorance and how easy insults and racist comments slip off the tongue, not all of them obviously but enough that I've remembered it and I'm no shrinking violet, a seriously backward view on the world from a westernised nation.

It's a phenomenal photo tho, **** the begrudgers

The wonderful thing about the modern, technology-based media is how it provides a voice for a small minority of irrelevant, defective, dysfunctional people who, with good reason, never had one hitherto.

I saw that photo yesterday - wonderful shot of an athlete flat-out, doing her thing. And only slightly avant-garde. :D

There is a very loud, very pathetic minority of people online who, when they see a woman like her, immediately feel the need to knock her back down to where they think she belongs.

However, the incident did lead to this exchange*:

edit: *No it didn't unless Tairy Green has a time machine, still a good set of tweets :D

Was wondering that, don’t need to read the exact words but for me there’s a difference between some knuckledragger saying “phwoar” and making a somewhat crude remark than some cretin making a rape or death threat.

Oh, you can imagine now, the sort of neckbearded gibbon who has never been within an ass's roar of a woman, and never will.

Athletes will have occasional dressed-to-the-side episodes during moments of supreme exertion and skill, no big deal and we all have the same bits. I remember seeing one fantastic shot of a young Chinese lady a few years ago, she was some sort of gymnast. She was vaulting over some piece of equipment, legs stretched out either side of her and had a catastrophic undergarment failure. So there she was, pointing directly into the wind like, God forgive me I'll die roaring, the nose intake of an F86 Sabre. But the best thing about that photo was surely the slowly dawning horror on the poor child's face, presumably as she realized what that sudden draught was about. I was mortified for her. :pac:

Doesn’t make it ok whether it’s a parody or not.

She’s a brave lady to object to the comments at all. Now she’s open to accusations of not having a sense of humour, being a feminazi, and unwilling to take a compliment.
Anonymity is the problem, disgusting trolls are probably nice guys in real life.

You and I have a very different understanding of Parody. Hot Shots Part Deux was a parody. Airplane! was a parody.

This is a coward hiding behind an avatar directly abusing someone.

    noun
an imitation of the style of a particular writer, artist, or genre with deliberate exaggeration for comic effect

semi-coherent mysogynistic rage. She's hoofing a ball, the dick head seems to think thats some sort of sexual 'come on', solely on the grounds she's female. Presumably he'd want women jockeys to ride side saddle as well.

I don't get why people would post horrible comments or am I a bit simple? Any male with blood in his veins would think "damn she fine". However I keep that to myself. I appreciate it's a chance inconsequential side effect of her being a super fit female at full tilt. Having said that one can't be blamed for having testosterone in their blood. However the posting of vitriol confuses me, like have people nothing better to be at?

Ahhh the Australian vernacular in all its erudite glory!

I honestly used to joke about Australia being a demonstration of the effects of Animal Husbandry theory on a human population...

If a farmer wants smarter animals he breeds the smart ones...
If he wants bigger, or stronger animals he breeds those and so on...

With Australia, the white population was initially founded on the back of those who couldn't make a successful life in Europe.
Even ignoring the convicts, the indentured servants and the failed second sons!
It was the arsehole of empire!

Then they bred unabated and the resulting Bruce and Sheila culture makes our own lad culture look positively enlightened! ;)

I do know plenty of smart, educated and bright Australians.
Unfortunately in my experience they really are the exception that proves the joke rule.

So a couple of people saying something mean on twitter is now a worldwide news story?

Well, to be fair it's yet another example of the fúcking awful things that many (most) female public figures have to deal with on a daily basis. Certainly male public figures get a fair smack of abuse online too, but it's nowhere near as toxic or disgusting as that aimed at women.

In this case it's just a woman taking part in her usual exercise, and she was spammed with all kinds of comments, from shaming, body comments and even rape threats.
