Toyota Hybrid Software Update RECALL

    Hi,

My 15 Auris Hybrid got called in for a recall. Toyota dealer says its a straight forward 1hr ECU software update to resolve some kind of overheating/fail safe inverter possible issues.

After some googling, I found numerous reports about people complaining about poor MPG after the recall software update.

It seems like Toyota has reduced the EV operation, especially under heavier loads to preserve the inverter cooling and lower temperatures, thus making engine work harder to avoid the possible issues with inverter.

The logic above does seem credible, but still a speculation as no one has actually seen the ecu files and the actual changes.

Anyone from here with any experience about this recall?

    Thanks

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

I am not aware of this issue but I agree the logic seems credible. It's the opposite of what Nissan did with the Leaf charging to "fix" #rapidgate - change the software to remove or slacken limitations to charging when the battery is overheating.

If I were you I wouldn't be sure what to do. Obviously you don't want the car to be a fire hazard, but I'm sure you'd rather not have badly decreased efficiency either...
