Manual wind or automatic stowa marine?

    Hi folks,
Last week I ordered a stowa marine klassik with top eta automatic movement. I was torn between ordering the manual wind or automatic but figured auto was the way to go as winding would be a pain in the ass. Then I started to think about how often I'd wear the watch, and that it would normally be in rotation anyways so I'll end up nearly always setting the automatic to correct time I wear it anyway.

Would you choose manual over automatic or am I overthinking this?

    Movement details...

Automatic movement ETA 2824-2, on request also in the top version or as manual wind with the beautiful ETA 2804-2

It may be to late to change the order at this stage.

    Thanks,
    Mick

Both are good. One thing I'd say is manual wind is definitely not a pain in the ass. It's satisfying winding them. I have couple of manual wind and winding them is the best part.

Yeah, I would definitely say if you don't have one, get one.

think i might be too late to change it... ive asked the question waiting for a reply.. it looks like stowa have knocked 15 euro off the price of the watches in last week.. at least when you add the optional movements..

I'd be happy with the automatic tbh, but for your next watch, try a manual wind. There will be a next. I got an old Russian Luch ultra thin for €60 or €70 on ebay and just for the laugh got a HMT for about a tenner. TBH, I've worn the HMT twice, it's just so light it feels like I could squish it. But the Luch is decent

I had the manual version and occasionally found it a pain as I would wear it without remembering to wind it and the time would be correct.. couple of hours later it would stop and caught me out a few times! You get used to it and as mentioned already, if you don't have a manual in the collection its a nice change!

Prefer manual wind myself especially if there's a date/day complication. Winding a watch nightly as opposed to getting a bit of energy into an automatic is easier if rotating between a few watches. Obviously moot point if you have a watch winder but, they ain't cheap.

Stowa are great to deal with - super-efficient!

I'm so happy with my Stowa Marine Auto.

Excellent piece. Personally I prefer automatics over manual winds. However both Stowa movements look good through the display caseback. So it really comes down to your personal preference. The manual wind is every bit as good as the automatic in terms of reliability and accuracy. Lovely looking piece, wear yours in good health. Regards.

If I could I would pick manual wind in any watch over automatic, it brings you more closer to the watch having to wind it everyday. I wish Rolex made manual wind haha

Rolex can be manually wound. One just unscrews the crown to position one (unscrewing the crown without pulling it). Then one winds it back and forth. This manually winds it rather than using the rotor to wind the movement. Personally I think this is better for the movement, than leaving an automatic on a watch winder.

    Hi folks,
New distressed leather martu strap arrived today from Chile. I ordered for a different watch which I've sold. I'm going to pop it on the stowa later to get a better feel for it .

Do people prefer the classic black strap look or the brown more vintage look?

    thanks,
    Mick
