How long to get a Tax Refund

I have friend who is an non-EU national, she studied in Ireland for 8 months in an English language course, she has since returned to her country and she says she is owed around €1000 tax. I think she may have been on Emergency Tax whilst here. She applied to get the refund before she left Ireland 6 weeks ago. How long does it take to get a refund in these cases? I am not tax resident in Ireland myself so have no experience of Revenue but I do know they are hugely inept and inefficent from listening to stories of other people who have dealings with them, their ROS system alone is supposed to be disgraceful.

Any dealings I've had with Revenue has been nothing but fantastic. With regard to ROS, it's excellent. Any tax returns I've done in the past 5+ years are done within 48 hours, and the refund in my account, if I do my end correctly.

You don't know any such thing - that is bullsh1t of the highest order.

Our Revenue Commissioners are among the most efficient and most customer-oriented national tax collection agency in the whole of Europe. They have won countless European and National awards over the years for the excellence of their systems.

You must have very little experience in dealing with them on a regular basis, their ROS system is pathetic, in particular the system for paying VRT and doing car change of ownerships, this system alone forced many small garages and sole traders out of business.

I think this says it all. You criticise them, and yet say you have no experience. Nuff said.

I've always had my balancing statements etc processed within less than a week, including applicable refunds hitting my bank account. I don't know anyone who has encountered issues either, in fact people are generally surprised at how helpful they are.

There do seem to be delays in some F11 refunds, maybe 10-14 days. Usually at this time of year they issue very fast normally the statement issues to ROS inbox within a couple of days but we’ve noticed that has stretched out a bit this year. It can also depend on the size of the refund as some may need manual intervention to approve.

I'll echo those who suggest you're just being ignorant with the above comments. No relation to reality whatsoever.

I got a medical refund the same week as I applied for it earlier this year. Very easy; very efficient.

Suggest give them a ring if any problems

Pretty poor use of il-informed, witless hyperbole there! Surely, given the extent of your knowledge of ROS, you should have written "forced literally millions of small garages and small traders out of business"?

Still waiting for my refund :(

Returned filed 25th or 26th feb. Accountant notified a day later that revenue agreed with her figures, however notice of assessment not issued until the 13th March as it needed to be checked and verified. I still have not received my refund and apparently it needs checking again. How many checks do they need to do??

Are change of ownerships not done by the Department of Transport?

There's not much point asking theguzman. He literally hasn't got a clue!

But the answer to your question is YES. Change of vehicle ownership must be registered directly with the Driver and Vehicle Computer Services Division of the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport.

Never had any issues with Revenue, find them very efficient, refund processed for me within 2 days back in February
