    Hi
My niece works 12 hour day shifts, 7am to 7pm, 3 days on 3 days off. When she works a 12 hour shift on a bank holiday she gets paid time and a half but only gets 8 hours in lieu. I thought she would've been entitled to 12 hours .....can anyone advise.
    Thanks

Does she work in a hospital?

I'm similar. If I take holidays on a bank holiday I only log 8 hours, it's all the system will let me.

I think the 8 hours is right, she averages about 40 hours a week on that rotation bank holiday would normally be 1/5 of the normal week

Shift work contracts are one of the hardest things to decipher aren't they!

I'll hazard a guess here, she starts at 7pm. The bank holiday started at 12am. She therefore worked 7 hours on the actual bank holiday, gets time in lieu for these hours?

Get your niece to go through her contract (all shift workers get one when starting/changing shift patterns). If she hasn't got a copy she needs to request one.
