Gamble on HSE job?

So I worked for a HSE department for a few months, loved every minute but left due to being on a recruitment agent contract. I’m would love to go back but would be on the same, hoping to eventually get a two year temp contract after 6 months and then on to a panel. I was coming out with 420 per week after tax and am trying to save for a mortgage at the moment still living in my family home. They were very flexible with allowing me to drop my son to school and come in at 9:15 or start earlier and leave earlier if I needed etc.

Would you take the gamble if you were in my position to go back and hope to eventually get permanency? Or get a job in the private sector?

It’s a Grade III position but I’ve office experience and qualifications and would be looking to move up the Grades too!

I only left due to being on rolling week to week contract etc and nobody wanted me to leave.

Please any advice welcome! I’m torn between my head and heart !!!

What’s more important the house or the job?

How close are you to having a deposit/applying for a mortgage? Banks probably won’t lend to you until you are permanent so by holding out for the HSE job it could be years until you can get a mortgage.

Could you get a mortgage quicker by going into the private sector and then changing career?

If you like the job, then it's a no brainer. Permanent contracts can be hard to come by in the HSE, but once you're in its much easier to hear about upcoming roles in other areas, interviews for permanent positions etc.

It's hard being stuck on short contracts, not being able to plan far into the future. But in reality you could be let go from a private sector job at any time too, you just don't have constant reminders in the form of short term contracts.

    Thanks for your replies.

No we haven’t started saving just yet. I can afford to save on what I would be on it’s just the salary when you can only get a house 3 times it that would be cr*p tbh.

I really enjoyed the work and got in great with everyone there.
