Recommend basic Android phone for old-timer

As i'm a fan of the latest Samsungs, this isin't an area of expertiese of mine.

Looking to get a basic (and not massive) Android phone for an old timer (they have an ancient Android currently). As mentioned, not too big physically (ideally no bigger than an S7).

Does not need to be up to much.... txt / phone / Whatapp (he doesn't even browse).

SIM free so going to buy online.

Any recommendations? I'd like to spend no more than €150, the less the better for how little use it will get.

as good as you'll do for the money in a bricks and mortar shop in Ireland.

it's not a big phone - only a 1/3 inch bigger than s7 lenghtwise. phones have gotten bigger in the last few years in general.

This Moto has a better battery (4000mah Vs 3000mah) so they'll be charging it less often.

That might be a little more convenient for them.

The 720p screen won't matter either, and helps battery life also.

Just get one of those Samsung J yokes, no need to spend even 150.

I got a J3 around Christmas for 70 when i moved my number to Vodafone (think it was a Christmas deal) and I'm surprised by how snappy it is.

Only worth getting something more expensive if you take a lot of photos or need a lot of space for apps and stuff.

Vodafone have similar offers. They give up to €60 off if you bring number over. Look at the Vodafone X9, I think its €90 after the deduction.

Both the phones mentioned here also have NFC although Seniors might not use this feature but it can be handy.

Went with the Honor 9 in Argos @ €160. It's for my Father who basically just wants it for Whatsapp so totally over-spec but he may start to use the camera etc.

For the sake of convenience and to get it there and then, I didn't care about the cost.

He should be grand as he had an olddddd Samsung on Android so he'll get the basics.

Had similar situation and got xiaoni note 4. An easy to use android.

something with a decent cpu, ram and sufficient internal will run better for longer.

also the storage of 32gb is useful. even 16gb can fill up quickly as you have 16gb minus the android system + mandatory google apps + bloatware not the full 16gb with just a few apps and a cache of a news app / facebook etc filling up. an sd card does not fully solve this issue at all for several reasons.

32gb is the min these days really imo.

no harm in not having a total potato camera also even if someone is not a big user.
