cooker hood

    Hi Guys
    I,m not an electrician but unable to get one out to look at this.
    Had a loop hanging from where the hood should go. Cut the wires ,put a socket on . Nothing. Cut a hole in the floor above . The wire is just one wire cut at the end. I get a reading when I put a voltage finder on the cable but the socket is dead. The cable runs down the wall and the voltage finder goes off when i switch the island power off on the fuseboard. At a loss to how can i get it working?
