Hi im looking at doing a self build. can anyone tell me for galway county council what criteria makes u local? certain distance from home house? I am from Galway my whole life.

Also cost u pay local authority when building?

How much to budget for landscaping walls gates for 0.5acre site?

Recently went through this myself in Galway.

    - The site you propose to build needs to be within ~7km ish of your family home (your parents house, where you grew up).

    - the more documentation you can provide that proves you are local / grew up in the area, the better, but the most important document is the land folio/registry of your parents house. Any application I see failing on local need often seems to be missing this document. This, combined with your long form birth certificate forms a tie with you to the area / your parents home.

    - long form birth cert

    - letters from primary / secondary school

    - letter from local club(s) confirming your membership, GAA, etc

    - letter from parish priest (!)

    - letter from employer confirming you work in the area.

The contribution fee to the council has increased in recent times. It’s now €2000 plus €7 per square meter.
