Staring Andrew Garfield, Riley Keough and from the director of It Follows. Head-trip noir about the odyssey of a shaggy-dog detective-esque loser through the underbelly of early '00s Los Angeles. Kinda a cross between Vertigo, The Big Lebowski and The Long Goodbye but riffs on late gen xer/early millennial disenchantment and nihilism. Extra extra polarising! You may love it or hate it. The Lighthouse in Dublin are showing it from tomorrow.

Blu-ray has been "available" since early December. It's brilliant, I loved it.

Have seen it last Summer after Cannes
Without giving anything away: I liked the initial premises but not where it headed.

Mubi also have it on Mubi Go (effectively a free ticket at participating cinemas for Mubi subscribers) for the next week, at least in the UK.

I watched this tonight and enjoyed it a lot. It's not without its faults, but I found it engaging and, like It Follows before it, there was a curious sense of something being askew in the world at large outside of the events of the film itself. The overall tone reminds me a fair bit of the likes of Bret Easton Ellis and Jay McInerney, with aspects of Garfield's character in particular being reminiscent of Bright Lights, Big City.

Mubi have recently added Mitchell's first film to their roster so I'll be checking that out soon as well. Should be interesting to see how he's developed since then.
