Looking at the House of Commons recently I see the same MPs sitting in exactly the same seats. For example, I see the "father of the House ' I think he's called Denis Skinner always sitting at the front at the end. Do all MPs have set seats?

Some do like the father of the house, others don't AFAIK. I'd say some have unofficial seats.

There are 650 members but only about 430 actual seats as it was (re)built in the 19th century.

Only the loudest ones who roar like uppity neighing horses saying "YEAA AAAAGGHHHHHHHHHHH" are allowed set seats.

Every morning there is a daily prayer.

If you get in before that time and put your name in the card in the place holder the unwritten rule is that it's your seat for the day.

Skinner as the father of the house has his set seat that no one would ever think of taking, Kind of like you wouldn't take your grand fathers arm chair.

Ken Clarke is Father of the House, he doesn't have his own seat but out of courtesy no one else takes his seat.

No set seats other than for respective front benches and by practice for certain party leaders. Certainly no set seat for the father of the house who is Ken Clarke (shame on you Sam for not identifying the erudite cigar chomping QC) and not Dennis Skinner who is the Beast of Bolsover. Skinner’s place was almost usurped by the SNP when they won all their seats in 2015 and wanted that prime spot. Apparently they’d send someone in early enough to grab it (like the anecdotal German towel at a swimming pool) but they were rebuffed. You’ll see the SNP leader, DUP leader and new Tigger people all have semi permanent spots.

its like that class in school where you weren't given a specific seat, but you nearly always end up sitting in the same spot anyway
