Just that really. Working in admin/secretarial roles and feel very stuck. I'm well into my 30s, thinking of studying part time (business/hr diploma then maybe a degree) but really feel very lost as to what to do and what's the next step for me.

Hoping to hear from people who have moved up and any tips

You need a rough idea as to where/what you'd like to be doing.
Talk to some people in those roles - organise to have a coffee / buy one of them lunch and get a feel for what that type of role is really like.

Have a look at Springboard to see what courses you can get into.

Myself, I started in a Warehouse role, went on to more Admin(ish) roles (Contracting), then on to Head Office function, for the last 2 years I'm working in Business Intelligence / Data Analysis and I like it.

I think HR is a good idea as it's mostly an admin role.

That’s not entirely true - yes there is an admin function and element to it as there is to all disciplines but HR is much more than an admin role.

Like the previous poster suggested you need to find out what you’d like to do in the long run. Admin roles can be great stepping stones to a further career you just need to make sure you are in an admin role in an area you are keen on. So if you’d like to get into marketing look for an admin role supporting a marketing team while at the same time think about doing an evening course in marketing.

I know of a few secretaries at a previous employer who moved into project management, as they were so well organized and good at keeping on top of paperwork.
If you are willing to start off in a junior Project Manager/coordinator role, it could open a lot of doors for you.
Look into Prince2 Foundation or CAPM certifications as well. You can achieve those in under a year.

Yes nail on the head I really am not sure what I like.

wouldn't have thought of project management at all. I'll look into that.
