Bleeding a towel radiator

Anyone have any idea on how to bleed a towel radiator?

My towel rad upstairs is warm at the bottom but cold at the top.

When I open the bleed valve at the top a small bit of air comes out but that’s it - no water.

It like as if the system isn’t pressurized all my other rads upstairs are working ok.

I have an oil, burner and stove with back boiler for central heating, mostly using the stove for central heating at this time of year.

How long did you leave it bleeding for?

It sounds like there may not be enough water in the rad. The system may need to be topped up or balanced again.

I have left it till I could hear no further air coming out, approx 30 seconds or so.

Emm I’d say there is water in the radiator as it warm at the bottom just not at top bars.

I too think there isnt enough water in the rad. How is your heating system supplied with water?

I have a pressured system, when a toilet etc flushes - the pump then kicks in.

You could try turning one of the knobs at the bottom of the rad (assuming it's a towel rad with both pipes beside each other), to try and let more water flow into it.

That isn’t the same water that’s in your heating system. You probably have a filling valve and filling loop somewhere. Maybe hot press? What kind of heating have you? Any pressure gauge obvious anywhere?

Thanks for you help folks but don’t think I’m going to be able to fix this.. :(

One thing I have noted however on the towel rad in the downstairs bathroom the bleed valve is on the right hand side of the rad ....the right side seems to be on the warm feed line

The other towel rad upstairs the bleed valve is on the left side of the rad .... plumber hardly installed them incorrectly?

Hiya, this happens me regularly and (for me at least) is always down to loss of water in the system. In my system there’s a hand valve close to the booster pump that I open until it fills (you can hear the flow slow down) and then close it again. Then bleed the rails again and the water eventually comes out.

No, Do you have a large water tank and a small water tank in your attic?

Check that you have water in small tank (about half full). Is that tank much higher than top of the towel rad?

No, small tank tops up the heating system, check the level of water in small tank as Wearb said

Just spotted my over overflow pipe is dripping water outside.

The small tank is about 1/4 full - May to liked to overflow pipe dripping?

It would be a about 3 foot higher that the towel rad.

1/4 full when hot (heating in) or cold?
