If they have a hard Brexit, what do you think that the worst-case-scenario might be in relation to the fellas bringing straw (and hay) up North?

I don't mean even getting into the long term of potentially low-cost crap quality food putting the UK farmers out of business, or even talking about sterling plummeting etc

It will affect the Republic farmers of course too. You would have to assume though that they automatic default position is that organic material would be subject to some restrictions. A lot of those fellas are cowboys anyway so regulations might not affect them, but how do you think it would affect the price of straw/fodder this year? Or maybe there would be no impact.

I'd say no impact for the first few months till the EU gets a handle on things.
With the last few years you can buy coal from the north which evades the carbon tax thats on coal here. So if thats anything to go by we will see

The coal thing is a bit like taking a booze trip up to Newry to stock up.

If there are controls on organic matter, importing straw/hay might be made illegal or at the very least controlled. Now whether or not they police it is another thing.

Around this part of the world it's mainly the North men buying up the straw that local fellas have to compete with when buying.

The thing about the coal is it's coming down south by the artic load and the authorities here never bothered to do anything about it
