Wiring New Build

Currently building a new house self build & want to get in wired for speakers in certain rooms & also put in a projector screen in our sitting room

At what point should I engage a particular company to come in to do this? Currently blocklaying & roof to go on over next 2 months. I really want to get it right & don't mind paying professionals to do it right

Also getting the whole house wired for fiber broadband? Does your typical electritician also install CAT5 cables? Or is this a bit overkill with WIFI being being the primary access now. ( I am in the country & over a mile from the nearest eir cabinet it maybe wishful thinking to have highspeed broadband anytime soon

    Any advice appreciated

    Hey there,

We just built a house ourselves and all I'd say to you is put the CAT5 in regardless of whether or not you think you might use it. I pulled CAT5 and speaker wires to every where we thought we might want it and even now I can see a couple of places I regret not pulling it to as well.

Will depend on what the house is (timber frame etc) but I pulled all the cables prior to walls being slabbed. The house was made airtight so we had a type of "service area" between the air tight membrane and the slab so used that to hold and hide speaker wires, coaxial and CAT5 etc. don't know if you have that luxury though.

If you're putting a projector on a ceiling don't forget to pull power, HDMI etc. to its location.

Definitely put Cat5/Ethernet cables from wherever you will have a TV and route them back to where the internet modem will be.
All TV's now have WiFi, but a wired connected is so much better and it will be hidden away.

Also run Cat5 cables for a possible CCTV system if required in the future.

Cat 6 cables would be better

Bring power and cat 5 to your windows for remote blinds
