123.ie driving other cars

Ive been trying to contact my insurer the last week but long holds each time.
I've policy with 123.ie that includes driving other cars.
The wording on the policy just says any other private car not owed by insured and with permission of the insured.
My friend is buying a car and it would be ideal if I could drive it home. Car is tested but not taxed. Anyone dealt with 123.ie on this.
Does the other car need insurance - I don't believe so.
Does it need to be taxed - it shouldn't have a bearing on insurance but with driving extension they can set the rules really?
Some insurers say the car must be road worthy while others say road legal.
