So Leo had decided to travel to the US for St.Patricks Day six days early !. How long after is he planning on staying?. Have we discovered oil in Roscommon or something.

"Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has delayed flying to Washington for the St Patrick’s Day festivities amid expectations of major developments in the Brexit negotiations.
The Taoiseach was due to fly to the United States this evening as he did not want to be in the air tomorrow while the House of Commons holds a 'meaningful vote' on the Withdrawal Agreement."

They usually don’t go over there for the parade alone, usually they visit companies who are considering opening up in Ireland.

He’s damned if he does, and damned if he doesn’t.

He’s probably going to lick the dog shït off Trumps boot heal and say he’s doing it for the Irish people.

I'm not a fan of Varadkar, he's one of the few politicians I'd hate to have to sit beside in an airplane, but criticising him for this is various kinds of wrong.

St Patrick's Day is a national holiday, but it's not like it's our independence day. It's a great opportunity to market Ireland and its economy abroad.

I'd much rather our Ministers were doing this important work abroad than sitting on some bleachers on O'Connell Street in the rain, waving at a visiting marching band from Boise, Idaho; or some inexplicable Chinese Dragon display.

As a compromise, I suggest we should institute a real, non religious independence day, perhaps marking the beginning of the Easter Rising, or the signing of the Anglo Irish Treaty.

It is a great marketing slash networking opportunity. Plus if he isnt here he cant break anything.

As they are talking to some foreign dignatory for the obligatory Guinness photo shoot and smiling away, every Taoiseach is actually saying sign the deal or I will make you drink the whole pint!

We need to milk this Paddy's day crap for as long as we can get away with it.
