You must buy a gas boiler and get it installed.

Calor are doing a free boiler offer. it depends on where your house is though. If you are on the gas network you go with GNI, if you are off the network the Calor deal makes sense.

How does the lpg compare to oil regards price, efficiency etc.

This isn't LPG. It fluctuates in terms of which is cheaper

It's less smelly, you can add cookers and dryers which are vastly more efficient than electric easily, you aren't paying up front for oil (which can be stolen if there is easy access to the tank) and don't run the risk of running out or paying for 1000l just before the price drops.

Conversely if the price rises you've little choice but to pay it, no chance of having had 1000l bought before.

We have significant gas reserves and produce about 50% of our consumption. We've no oil. So there are less supply chain risks

So, natural gas is almost always the cheapest. It will only be available on the natural gas network. Much of the country that wants gas has to use LPG, Calor or Flogas. Bulk LPG comes either in large cylinders or in a bulk storage tank, not unlike an oil tank. The advantage of LPG is that it is cleaner (less emissions) than home heating oil, it cant be stolen. You can also opt for an autofil telemetry system that means it gets delivered before you run out.

Oil is cheaper at the moment and i think normally is. Carbon tax differentials may change that in the years ahead though.

Calor offer a BioLPG, a renewable gas option. I think, but not sure, that this is roughly the same price as standard LPG.

Not really. The original offer the GNI connection is to physically connect your house to the gas network, if there is a network near you to connect to. After connection you pick a supplier, eg Bord Gais, Electric Ireland, SSE etc and they will supply you with your gas.

The Calor boiler offer is pretty much aimed at places where natural gas is not available.
