    Hi All,

My brother is looking to move from his 2 litre diesel peugeot rcz to a car which is cheaper to run for things like fuel, tax and insurance.

Initially he was looking for an electric car because of the cheaper running costs. However, most electric cars with the exception of the Renault Zoe would require adding quite a bit of money to the trade in value of the 2 litre diesel peugeot rcz (54k miles) and this is not really possible at the moment.

Does anyone have any experience with a Renault Zoe?

Or are there normal fuel cars out there which are cheaper for running costs than a Renault Zoe?

There are various threads here on similar subject.

And the first question is always.

What is his mileage and what would be typical route to work. i.e type of roads speeds distances daily

And the mileage is typical daily route, the yearly mileage doesn't really matter. Does he have a private parking where a charger can be installed? Any chargers at work?

    Thanks

Daily mileage would be approx. 45km - 90% of that would be along motorway. Yes, he has private parking at home where a charger can be installed - probably not at work though.

45 km return trip? Any EV will be perfect including a 24 kWh LEAF (the 2011-131 only if the battery pack is good, for example replaced under warranty). You could even do the motorway at top speed if you wanted to.

Most of the Zoe are battery lease, i.e. there is 70-100 yoyo monthly rental cost on top of the price of the car which makes them cheap but essentially sale proof second hand. Unless the price is really low. Everything sells at the right price. But to put this in context our car is driven for approx. 22k a year (about 75 km a day on average I would imagine) on home charging and our electricity bill is 75-100 a month including all the house electricity usage. So battery rental potentially doubles or more the monthly running cost.

I had no idea about the battery lease thing? Wow. Thanks
