A set of unique circumstances has led us to a situation that we need to flip the car insurance. I am a named driver and my partner (we not married) is the primary driver in our car insurance policy.

My job has changed and I will soon be driving for work (in our car, not a company car). As such, i have to become the primary driver on the policy and my partner will flip to a named driver.

When getting quotes the insurance companies said that i had to change the ownership of the car into my name. So i have a few questions that i cant seem to find answers to online:

1 - Can I just get my name added as a registered owner so that we will both be named or can there only be one registered owner?

2 - All the websites (citizensinfo etc) talk about changing the name after selling/buying. Im not buying and my partner is not selling, we are just changing names, is this a problem from a tax perspective?

3 - we are still paying off a car loan for this car, do we have to tell the car loan provider?

    1) You can only have one name on the book.

    2) it’s just a change of ownership, no money has to change hands

    3) what sort of finance is on the car? Loan/PCP/HP?

Thank you for the answers on the first two, that was my thought too so its good to get the confirmation.

A car loan from the credit union, in my partners name as at the time he was the registered owner.

I don’t think there are any implications in that case.
