Hi, I'm looking to move an oil tank from beside my house by about 70 feet. We're hoping to tarmac around our house and don't want the issue of oil being spilled on it etc. Has anybody been through this process, who would you normally ask to do this and what are the costs involved please? Thanks in advance

get a plumber/handyman in to do it, you'll want someone with a mini digger to dig a trench if needed, try get the one man to give a price for the complete job to save you the hassle of trying to work with a couple of different guys

I have the same question - albeit I wouldn't be looking to move the tank 70ft...more like 10ft.
Would anyone have a rough idea how much to budget for this work? 1500?

Hi Diceicle, my husband and a neighbour moved it in the end, and it wasn't too difficult. they didn't need to move it the 70 ft, it was more like a 5/6 feet to a different location. If you paid a handy man to help you for half a day, that should be sufficient. Hope it works out!

There are now specific instructions as to how the base for oil tanks should be constructed, as well as their locations in relation to walls, buildings, waterways and drains.
You should really engage the services of an Oil Heating tech who is familiar with the Oftec standards for heating oil tank installations.

Did it mostly myself last year. Got the oil man to replumb but did the rest myself.

Bury a duct between the house and the new tank location, can easily pull the copper pipe through at a later stage and will avoid and damage/pinching of the soft copper pipe which might cause a leak.

Also make sure the tank is still higher than the boiler (for gravity flow). You'd be surprised how many people put it at the "bottom" of their garden and if the tank goes below half full, the boiler wont get the fuel.
